The Church Chatter Podcast co-hosts, Dr. Samantha Bise and Rev. Dillon Epler, discuss a different church word or phrase each week. Samantha studies the religious linguistics, and Dillon is a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor. Together, they explore the context behind church language because that's their idea of a good time!

Both religious and non-religious people use church language in common conversation all the time--Christ, turn the other cheek, martyr, alleluia, gospel, and more. Do we really know what these words mean and where they come from? Church language has more to do with politics, the Roman Empire, and other power structures than we might realize.
